Dénia is a town of around 45,000 people in the north of the Costa Blanca, set between the sea and the Montgó Natural Park. An old castle rises above the town, with the cosy old town and the Baix la Mar fishermen's quarter at its foot: colourful houses, narrow streets and small cafés.
The coastline here stretches for about 20 kilometres. North of the town you'll find long sandy beaches, while to the south lies the rocky Les Rotes, with clear water that's perfect for snorkelling. Ferries leave from the harbour for Ibiza and Mallorca.
Dénia is also known for its food: UNESCO has named it a Creative City of Gastronomy, and the local pride is the red prawn, gamba roja. The fish market, tapas bars and harbourside restaurants are part of everyday life here.
